In Philbrick's Freak the Mighty, the climax of the novel happens very close to the end of the novel when Kevin (Freak) dies.

A climax is:

the moment in a play, novel, short story, or narrative poem at which the crisis comes to its point of greatest intensity and is resolved.

Therefore, all of the conflict (the fighting with the Tony D. and his gang, the kidnapping of Max, and the hospitalizations of Freak) all lead up to the death of Freak.

After Freak dies, Max is able to understand what he must do to survive without Freak. Max has become stronger, learned about true friendship, and realized that he is capable of standing up for himself and others.

Therefore, the climax of the novel is Freak's death given the falling action and resolution are the places where Max comes to terms with everything that has happened over his time with Freak.

In 35 words or fewer, what's the last story you heard that was memorable? What about the story made you remember it?
elena-s [515]

Answer and Explanation:

Curtis Jackson was shot 9 times and had his life almost snatched from him. Most people would lose their lives at the impact of one bullet, Curtis didn't. It doesn't immediately add up but somehow it does add up. Curtis Jackson's life flashed right before his eyes but his vision got even sharper, his mission and goal became immediately urgent, and clear. He began to live in the truest sense of the word "living". It may seem that destiny had led his shooter to his car, that fateful afternoon.

This story from 50 cent's autobiography is a constant reminder that life is like a flash of light and the only way to truly appreciate it is to know it's transience and maximise every moment.
