So for #1, if the tortoise walks 27 miles in 1 year and they're asking for how many it will walk in 10 years, you'd take 27 and multiply it by 10, which would leave you with 270 miles.
For #2, if the tortoise lives for 100 years and walks 27 miles each year, you'd take 27 and multiply it by 100, which would leave you with 2,700 miles.
For #3, is Paolo earns $40 each month, and they're asking for how much Paolo would have in a year, you'd multiply 40 by 12 (the 12 represents the 12 months). This would leave you with $480
And finally, for #4, if there are 60 seconds in a minute and 60 minutes in an hour, you'd simply multiply 60 by 60 to find the accurate amount of seconds in an hour. This equation would leave you with 3600 seconds.
..So to sum up
1: 270 miles
2: 2,700 miles
3: $480
4: 3600 seconds
Hope this helps.

How will you know whether a solution is a percent increase or a percent decrease?
chubhunter [2.5K]

Step-by-step explanation:

First, work out the difference (decrease) between the two numbers you are comparing. Next, divide the decrease by the original number and multiply the answer by 100. If the answer is a negative number, this is a percentage increase.
