The Krebs cycle involves the aerobic breakdown of glucose for energy. In the first reaction of the Krebs Cycle, the enzyme Aconi

tase converts Citric acid to its isomer, the molecule isocitrate. The Keq’ for this reaction is approximately 0.1. ∆G°' for this reaction is therefore ____ and the reaction is ____.

Answer:

The reaction is at equilibrium

Explanation:

The Krebs cycle is an aerobic pathway because the final electron acceptor required is oxygen.

The most common situation leading to a disruption in the function of Krebs cycle is the lack of oxygen to accept electrons in the electron transport chain.

The conversion of citrate to isocitrate (isomerization), is catalyzed by the enzyme, aconitase (also known as aconitate hydratase). The hydroxyl (alcohol) group of citrate is moved to an adjacent carbon so that it can be oxidized to form a keto group.

This reaction involves generation of an enzyme-bound intermediate, cisaconitate. At equilibrium, there exists 90% citrate, 3% cisaconitate, and 7% isocitrate; hence the equilibrium of aconitase lies toward citrate formation.

Although the aconitase reaction does not require cofactors, it requires ferrous (Fe2+) iron in its catalytic mechanism. This Fe2+ is involved in an iron–sulfur center, which is an essential component in the hydratase activity of aconitase.

According to Gibb's free energy:

ΔG = 0 - Reaction at equilibrium.

ΔG > 0 - non-spontaneous reaction.

ΔG < 0 - spontaneous reaction.

How does pollution affect land, air, and water?
Vlad1618 [11]

How Pollution Affects:

The air: it can clog cities with smog, making it hard to breathe. This can also mess with rainfall, because raindrops are water droplets that form around tiny particles of dust or smoke, the latter of which creates acid rain.

The land: Acid rain can rain down onto plants and animals, giving them chemical burns and stripping trees of leaves and bark, leaving decaying organic matter behind.

The water: Pollution in the water can cause the pH (acidity or basicness) of the water to change. A lot of organisms can't survive too much swing in either direction of the pH scale, so they will all start to die, except for a few outliers that can handle it, who's population explodes and completely take over the aquatic ecosystem.

Which of the following is true of anabolic reactions? View Available Hint(s) Which of the following is true of anabolic reaction
puteri [66]

Answer:

Anabolic reactions use ATP and small substrates as building blocks to synthesize larger molecules.

Explanation:

Anabolic reactions are part of metabolic pathways that occur inside the living cells. Anabolic reactions always form complex molecules from simpler substances. The formation of glucose from relatively simpler CO2 and H2O during the Calvin cycle is an example of the anabolic pathway. During anabolic pathways, the metabolic energy of ATP hydrolysis drives the endergonic reactions. Therefore, anabolic reactions consume ATP. Calvin cycle uses the ATP produced during light reactions of photosynthesis.
