Why did the United States take military action against the Taliban?
Nesterboy [21]
The United States took military action against the Taliban due to the attacks on the World Trade Center in 2001 by al Qaeda. Osama bin Laden was determined to have had connections to the movement (however tenuous or extremist they may have been) and the movement itself oftentimes encouraged hostilities against Western states due to their century-long period of interference in Middle Eastern affairs.

For what reasons, and with what results, was the League of Nations set up in 1919?
aniked [119]
The reasons for the establishment of the League of Nations can bee seen in the year in which it was established: just after the first World War.
At that time, a big proportion of world was devastated by the effects of the war, and arguably almost the whole world was affected in some way. People seeked peace and wanted to establish means that would prevent a similar war in the future. An international organisation of nations was established with that purpose: to support world peace.
As we know, this aim was not reached, as soon another world-scale war followed. In fact by that time (1939), a lot of nations, including Germany (which in any case joined late, as it was not allowed to join just after they had lost another war) have withdrawn from the League of nations. Additionally, the League was not as powerfull as it would have been if the US had joined: another factor that contributed to its failure.

What is one of the reform efforts of Texas Women?
Lisa [10]
One of the reforms efforts of Texas Women is the link between women and Texas history as old as the place itself. The first known history of Texas written in English was by a woman, Mary Austin Holley, and was published in 1836. By 1888, Anna Pennybacker's history of the state had become a standard text for turn-of-the-century students. The study of women in Texas, however, has a much more modern lineage.
