The program The National Industrial Recovery Act had the duty to fund clearing the slums in the US, and the area that was in the plan to be cleaned was the one around Techwood Dr.

<u>This happened and, that is how Techwood Homes were erected.</u><u> The homes were meant for low income earning families, mostly those who previously lived in the mentioned slums; the goal was for them to have the proper homes with pluming and electrics, garages, laundry facilities and services such as kindergartens, school, and library. </u>

However, later on, Techwood homes again transformed into low-income neighborhoods, resembling slums, and was demolished in 1996, because of the Olympics.
