Spiros is a member of the production design team on a science fiction film called The Future Begins Yesterday. It is a big budge

t production and is already behind schedule due to weather delays. Spiros and two other team members, Juanita and Alex, are tasked with finding futuristic background props for a scene in which the hero and his nemesis have a huge fight. Spiros, while glad to have landed his first job in the film industry, earns more money from posting videos offering behind-the-scenes glimpses of the set online. To that end, he sneaks back to the team's trailer as often as he can to post new material. This means that the set decorations the team was supposed to source are not yet complete, and the scene cannot be filmed at the scheduled time. The set design supervisor, Marsha ,observes Juanita and Alex arguing with Spiros about holding up his end of the group effort. Marsha hears Spiros telling them that they are much better at finding props than he is, so they do not really need his help. Marsha sees a lot of potential in Spiros, but she is unhappy with the fact that he is not contributing as much as he should and is holding up the production as a result. Given what you know about process loss, how should Marsha address Spiros' behavior?
A. make Spiros responsible for sourcing wall hangings and window treatments only
B. transfer Spiros to the front office where he will not have direct access to the set
C. demand that Juanita and Alex address Spiros' shortcomings however they see fit
D. fire Spiros from the production since he is not capable of working in a team environment
E. require employees to check in their cell phones and laptops when arriving on set

Answer:

A. make Spiros responsible for sourcing wall hangings and window treatments only

Explanation:

Process loss can be said to be an action or deficiency in performance by an individual that prevents a team or group from reaching its potential or achieving its goal within a stipulated time.

The two main factors that contribute to process loss are:

i) Coordination loss: Here, there is too much wait time among all members of the group. Members must coordinate their individual tasks and that of other group members. Too much time is lost here because individuals efficiency differs.

ii) Motivational loss: This happens when individuals of a grouo fail to work as hard as they should. Some individuals may tend to put lesser efforts than their team members, and this leads to loss of team effectiveness in the given task and it affects the results of the group.

Here, Spiro's problem is related to motivational loss, as his efforts do not match that of his teammates'.

There are steps used in addressing process loss.

The best way for Marsha to address spiros' behavior is to make Spiros's task more discrete and identifiable, this involves making Spiro solo responsible for sourcing wall hangings and window treatments only. This will ensure Spiro does not depend on other teammates and he has a solo responsibility which he must fulfill.

An apparel manufacturing plant has estimated the variable cost to be $3.30 per unit. Fixed costs are $1,800,000 per year. Forty
erica [24]

Answer:

$15.30

Explanation:

Given that,

Fixed costs = $1,800,000 per year

Variable cost = $3.30 per unit

40% of its business is with one preferred customer.

Total units sold in a year = 150,000

Unit cost per item:

= (Fixed cost ÷ Total units sold) + Variable cost per unit

= ($1,800,000 ÷ 150,000) + $3.30

= $12 + $3.30

= $15.30

Therefore, the unit cost per item is $15.30.

Ksivusya [100]

Answer:

Purchases (in pounds)= 92,550

Total cost= $16,936,650

Explanation:

Giving the following information:

Budgeted production:

2nd quarter= 248,000 units

3rd quarter= 60,500 units

Beginning inventory= 74,400 pounds

Each unit requires 0.60 pounds of raw material

Buying price= $183 per pound.

Desired ending inventory= 50% of next quarter’s budgeted materials.

To calculate the budgeted purchase of raw materials, we need to use the following formula:

Purchases= sales + desired ending inventory - beginning inventory

Purchases (in pounds)= (248,000*0.6) + (60,500*0.6)*0.5 - 74,400

Purchases (in pounds)= 148,800 + 18,150 - 74,400

Purchases (in pounds)= 92,550

Total cost= 92,550*183= $16,936,650
