Answer:

D. By quoting a public figure to establish credibility

Explanation:

Ethos is exemplified as the literary technique employed to persuade the audience to believe in the claim or argument proposed by the author or speaker by appealing to their ethics or moral conduct. It is described as one of the three 'modes of persuasion' as proposed by Aristotle that is based on the speaker's character or credibility, the other two are logos(appeal to logic) and pathos(appeal to emotion).

As per the question, in the given passage the author Geoffrey Lean employs ethos 'by quoting a public figure to establish credibility' as he invokes authority that aids to establish the credibility of his claim and persuade the readers ethically. Thus, option D is the correct answer.

Is Macbeth a tragedy of fate or of character? In determining your position on this, consider whether the witches play a central
Molodets [167]
It might be a tragedy of fate after all. Yes, I do think that the witches play a central role in the play, because if it hadn't been for them, none of the tragedy would have happened. If they hadn't told Macbeth about what was to happen, he would never have thought about killing Duncan and becoming king himself. He would have been satisfied with where he was at that particular moment, and proud of himself. This way, the witches destroyed everything by planting the seed of greed in Macbeth, and thus it had to end tragically.  ~THE BRAINLIEST ANSWER!
