Flannery O'Connor's short story <em>"A Good Man is Hard to Find"</em> is about a family's road trip, goth stories of the American South told by "the grandmother" and the family ending up killed by the Misfit, a murderer the grandma had read about in the newspaper.
The Misfit is a curious character. He was jailed before for having murdered his father, but he didn't seem to attach too much importance to it. He is an outlaw and someone who showed no mercy killing people, but he often wondered about God and divine justice. He even carried a conversation about religion and spirituality with "the grandmother" before killing her.
