12) A particular species of North American frog is most comfortable within a temperature range of 20 oC- 40 oC. A mating pair is

sitting ~2 feet apart. The female is in a puddle containing ~100 milliliters of water. The male is sitting on a fancy copper garden ornament that weighs ~400 grams. It is a very warm day, the temperature of both the ornament and water are 33oC. The sun’s rays provide an additional 10,000 Joules of energy to both the water and the ornamental perch. Which frog will be the first to move and join its mate? Use the following formula and values to justify your answer. q= msT 1 milliliter of water = 1 gram, s for water is 4.184 Joules/g/oC, s for copper is .387 Joules/g/oC

Answer:

The male frog would join the female frog in the water poodle

Explanation:

Mathematically,

Let x = temperature the 10000 joules from sun Ray would raise the temperature of the copper

So therefore:

10000 = m * (x - 33°) * Spc

Where m = mass of copper = 400g

Spc = specific heat capacity of copper = 0.387j/g/°c

So

400 * ( x - 33) * 0.387 = 10000

( x - 33 ) = 10000/ (400 * 0 387)

x = 97.6 °c

Temp for water where m = mass of water = 100g

x¹ = temperature the sun Ray of 10000 joules would raise the temp of water too.

Spw = specific heat capacity of water = 4.184j/g/°c

So therefore;

100 * ( x¹ - 33 ) * 4.184 = 10000joules

x¹ - 33 = 10000/ (100 * 4.184)

x¹ = 56.9°c

Since x for the male frog is greater than x¹ for the female frog, the male frog would be more uncomfortable because it's environmental temp is far higher than the comfort zone tem which is 20° to 40°c so it would move to join the female frog.

Gala2k [10]

True.

For Accounts Payable denominated in a foreign currency, an increase in the direct exchange rate (dollar has weakened) results in an exchange gain.

What is an exchange gain or loss?

 • A change in the exchange rate between the time an invoice was issued and the time it was paid results in an exchange gain or loss.
 • An exchange gain or loss results when an invoice is entered at one rate and paid at another.

 • The exchange rate at which the consumer pays for this invoice will ineluctably differ from the rate at which you recorded the invoice in your accounting system, even though you will have appropriately converted your prices.
 • The cash you receive will be considerably more than what you initially invoiced as a result.
 • This difference is known as an exchange gain or loss depending on which way the exchange rate has gone, i.e. whether the currencies involved have appreciated or depreciated in value (a gain or loss).

Barry Cuda is considering the purchase of the following Builtrite bond: $1000 par, 3 1/4% coupon rate, 10 year maturity that is
Sav [38]

Answer:

Yield to Maturity = 3.97%

Explanation:

The yield to maturity is the discount rate that equates the price of the bond to the present value of its future cash flow receivable from it.

The yield on the bond can be determined as follows using the formula below:

YM = C + F-P/n) ÷ 1/2 (F+P)

YM-Yield to maturity-

C- annual coupon

F- Face Value

P- Current Price

DATA

Coupon = coupon rate × Nominal value = 1,000 × 3 1/4%= 32.5

Face Value = 1000

YM-?, C- 32.5, Face Value - 1,000, P-940

YM = (32.5+ (1000-940)/10) ÷ ( 1/2× (1000 + 940) )

YM = 0.0397 × 100 = 3.97%

Yield to Maturity = 3.97%
