Animals have different structures (like gills, lungs) to perform similar functions as a mechanism of an evolutionary continuum with adaptations depending on various limitations like phylogeny, structure and behavior of animals, and other environmental factors.

Explanation:

Respiration in any organism takes place through the exchange of gases. Respiration differs in different animals and it takes place through;

  • Cell membranes in unicellular organisms
  • Moist skin surface in amphibians
  • Gills by fishes, annelids and arthropods
  • Lungs by birds, reptiles, and mammals

Gills are specialized structures in fishes which absorb the oxygen dissolved in water and lets out carbon dioxide into the water. Later gaseous exchange takes place through blood vessels in the gills.

Animals use lungs for respiration by inhaling oxygen and exhaling carbon dioxide. The gaseous exchange occurs in the alveolar sacs of the lungs.

Can you identify the ploidy of different structures? drag the terms on the left to the appropriate blanks on the right to comple
Leni [432]

Answer:

1. The gametophyte generation is haploid.

2. The embryo is diploid.

3. The megaspore is haploid.

4. The sporophyte generation is diploid.

Explanation:

1. Gametophyte- The gametophytic generation is the structure which produces gametes in the plant. Since the gametes are haploid, therefore, the gametophyte us considered the haploid.

2. Embryo- The embryo is formed after the fusion of fertilization when zygote develops, therefore, is considered diploid.

3. Megaspore- the big size spore which is formed from by the meiotic division of the megasporocyte, therefore, is considered haploid.

4. Sporophyte- the sporophyte generation develops from the embryo which is diploid therefore is considered diploid.
