<u>Answer:</u>

<em>D. to convince them that they must fight today to secure tomorrow’s freedoms</em>

<em></em>

<u>Explanation:</u>

Roosevelt’s speech is even today motivating and inspiring lives around the world. His famous words, "<em>The only thing we have to fear is fear itself – nameless, unreasoning, unjustified terror that paralyses needed efforts to convert retreat into advance.</em>" With his speech he hoped to convince the people of America that if they fear today, fear will overpower them. But if they fight today then they can themselves secure their own future. When Roosevelt came into the picture, more than half of America was struggling with unemployment. His speeches were promises that people needed.

Out of that list, the one that describes the events at Appomattox Courthouse in April of 1865 is A. Lee surrendered to Grant, who gave him generous terms of surrender. Robert E Lee was the commander of Confederate forces in Virginia and thus, as the loser, he was the one who had to surrender to Grant, the commander of Union forces. However, the terms were very generous as President Lincoln sought an immediate period of reconciliation rather than harboring ill-will in a military state. As such, the Confederate troops present at Appomattox were allowed to leave without repercussion.<span />

Mao Zedong launched the Cultural Revolution in China in response to
Blababa [14]

... in response to other persons in leadership in China that Mao thought focused too much on technical expertise and not on ideological purity.

Mao Zedong began the Great Proletarian Cultural Revolution (its official name) in 1966.  A big part of the program was the closing of China's schools, because Mao saw the majority of educators as bourgeois types who were failing to support the communist revolution.  The Cultural Revolution was an insistence on loyalty to communist party ideology.

The Red Guard was formed, which was made up of high school and college students (no longer attending school, since schools were shut down).  These radicalized students became militants for Mao over against those whom he considered not revolutionary enough.  The Red Guard destroyed historical artifacts and writings of the of China's former culture.  They also attacked persons who were seen to be resisting Chairman Mao's permanent revolution.
