When the victims were divided into weak and able, Wiesel’s father was selected to go to the left which is the weak group. Wiesel prompted to run after his father and the SS men were attempted to pursue him but it created confusion so the other prisoners including Wiesel and his father switched to the right side. This helped them survive the selection at Gleiwitz.
