This caused panic in the US, both in the military and at the public, and the country was all ready for a war at any moment. The Soviets were threatening to the US, and the US were threatening to them, and it almost came a situation where the ''red button'' was going to be pressed, but luckily for everyone int he world reason won and that didn't happened.
