The correct answer is “…she would duck the Devil out of her.”. Taken from the article “A Witch Trial at Mount Holly” by Benjamin Franklin (1730), the phrase from the excerpt presented above that makes the witch trial seem ridiculous is the one that reads “…she would duck the Devil out of her.”. This phrase narrates the moment when the female accuser floats in the water and declares that the accused cursed her causing her “to make her so light, and that she would be duck’d again a Hundred Times, but she would duck the Devil out of her.”. Franklin ridicules the female accuser who innocently believed she could “duck” the curse and the devil that made her float, showing no rationality. Franklin has used humour as a rhetorical device throughout all his writings. A clear example of his technique is this article “A Witch Trial at Mount Holly” in which Franklin highlighted the hypocrisy of Puritan culture through satire.

Which sentence uses indirect characterization?
Rama09 [41]
I believe none of these options are correct. However, if you had to choose one, I would pick A - Nina slid into her seat just as the bell rang and tried to catch her breath.
B, C, and D are incorrect because these are all examples of direct characterization, meaning that the other directly tells us what these people are like. This doesn't happen in A, which is why I would choose that option.

Should your religion be a factor in whether or not you are hired in certain jobs (government/private sector)? Why or why not? Wh
wariber [46]

TL;DR, No (in most cases).

It doesn't matter what religion you are, because it doesn't affect how you work. In government, people have many different religions, as seen in things like the Senate and House.

However, if the employers are discriminating against you for your religion it should be a factor. Don't stay in a job that discriminates against you for your religion.
