De acuerdo a los historiadores, los Wari se expandieron desde Ayacucho (su origen geográfico) a gran parte de las costas y sierra peruana por dos motivos principales:

  • Tenían conocimientos agrícolas avanzados para su época, en otras palabra, dominaban la agricultura de terrazas, vital para la supervivencia en las montañas, y que luego harían célebre los Incas.
  • Sabían formar alianzas, y usaban a su religión como una especie de poder blando que ayudaba a construir estas alianzas.
