In Rikki Tikki Tavi, Rudyard Kipling writes about a mongoose that is trying to defend the people living in a bungalow and the animals in the garden next to the bungalow that become threatened by two cobras (Nag and Nagaina). Rikki Tikki Tavi saves both the family and the animals also killing the cobra's eggs. Rikki Tikki Tavi is fond of the animals fo the garden and defends them saying, "marks or no marks, do you think it is right for you to eat fledglings out of a nest?" I believe the answer is D. Before, because Also and During would make it grammatically incorrect and if you consider the fact that they were able to, "see and hear the explosion," then Eventually would not fit because that makes it sound like it took a bit of time.
