Answer:

The author of The Outsiders, S.E Hinton, believed that today's writers all wrote from their point of view. They remember what it was like to be a teenager, which is mostly from the 1900's. Their view of teenage years is conflicting with our view, as we know a different world. She is saying that these writers are not modern, so the reader doesn't connect with the author as they should.
