Hello there! You did not post the options for this question. Since I was not able to find those options online, I'll give an answer and an explanation, as thoroughly as possible, that will probably fit one of the options you have.

Answer:

The theme in "Shopping", by Joyce Carol Oates is the difficult relationship between mother and daughter.

Explanation:

The story is developed around Mrs. Dietrich and her daughter Nola's relationship. Even though Mrs. Dietrich loves her daughter unconditionally, their connection has been faltering now that Nola is growing up. Her mother is having a hard time understanding and accepting Nola's preferences, needs, and desires. She is not ready to see Nola leave, nor to admit that this daughter of hers is becoming a woman of her own. As a matter of fact, Mrs. Dietrich has come to a desperate point where she feels she does not know her daughter at all:

Once after one of their quarrels Mrs. Dietrich told a friend of hers, the mother too of a teenage daughter, “I just don't know her any longer, how can you keep living with someone you don't know?” and the woman said, “Eventually you can't.”

Still, there is love. If there wasn't, they wouldn't struggle so much to keep up - and put up - with each other. Nola will eventually become a whole individual, completely unattached from her mother. Yet, love will remain - a freer, more independent type of love.

How do you believe people can move from stereotype all the way to genocide? What does it take for someone to be willing to "look
mr Goodwill [35]

Answer:

Find the answers and explanation below.

Explanation:

1. When people are stereotyped (that is have a particular way they view those who are different from them, which is usually negative) towards others they tend to develop hatred for them. All the actions of the stereotyped group are viewed with suspense and when the opportunity presents itself (perhaps in form of a small misunderstanding), the hatred can compel those with stereotyped views to exterminate the others.

2. So long as the individual does not belong to the victimized group, and he also nurses ill-feelings about them, then, he can actually 'look the other way' when a genocide is happening.

3. I strongly believe that genocide is something that could happen in today's society.

In today's society when people hate others because they do not come from their tribes, nor share the same skin color with them, and these views are escalated through comments on the internet, a genocide can easily happen. It takes just a volatile comment from a person with a negative view of others, a reaction from an offended person, and the publicization of such an event for a genocide to happen.

In at least 150 words, explain why Gilman probably chose to write “The Yellow Wallpaper” in the first person.
jok3333 [9.3K]
I believe that Gilman wrote "The Yellow Wallpaper" in the first person to make it seem more relatable to the readers and so that other women who had been treated the same way could see that they were not alone. Gilman wanted to break free and do what she wanted to do with her life but at this time women weren't allowed to do anything of the sort. When Gilman tore the wallpaper it symbolized her breaking free from the social norm and being free to do whatever her heart desires.

Citrus2011 [14]

Answer:

Being selfless means you are kind enough to put other's needs before yourself. So Tris is considerate, and probably helps other people before helping himself (sorry if its another gender I don't know what Tris's gender is.)

Explanation:

I hope that helped.

If you got it mixed up with being hopeful just remember a hopeful person doesn't have to be kind, and an assertive person often has a fiery personality.
