Bonjour

Je n'suis pas à la plage  ► INCORRECT <em>(explanations below)</em>

Vous n'êtes pas en ville. ► CORRECT

Tu n'es pas en ville.         ► CORRECT

<em>ELISION</em>

<em>you drop a vowel when two vowels are following (or a mute H) with one syllable words or conjunctions ending with an "e".....</em>

<em>ne + word beginning by a vowel or a mute h ==> n'</em>

ne +  es = n'es, ne + a =n'a, ne + avons = n'avons, ne + est = n'est.....

<em>le, la  + words with a vowel or a mute H => </em>

le +  arbre = l'école, le + homme = l'homme, la +école= l'école ....

<em>ce + words  with a vowel or a mute H ==> c'</em>

ce + est= c'est

tu te + habilles = Tu t'habilles

je + aime = j'aime

...

<u><em>So now you can see what's wrong with "je n'suis pas à la plage" ......???</em></u>

Je ne suis pas à la plage.

<em>"ne" is not followed by a vowel but a consonant, so you don't need to elide the "e" of "ne"....</em>

hope this helps ☺☺☺
