Consider this situation: You want to reabsorb sodium ions but you do not want to increase the volume of the blood by reabsorbing

Answer:

The correct answer is: increase the amount of aldosterone and decrease ADH.

Explanation:

ADH is a hormone produced in the pituitary gland that is responsible for fluid retention. To achieve this, ADH works by reabsorbing water, which concentrates the urine and decreases its volume. The water will be reabsorbed into the blood vessels which will increase the volume of blood.

Aldosterone, on the other hand, is produced in the adrenal gland and has the function to increase sodium uptake and potassium secretion.

If the objective is to reabsorb sodium without increasing the volume of blood, aldosterone should be increased and ADH should be decreased.
