The 13th Amendment of 1865 ended with slavery in the Southern states. At least, Black people were free. But as ironical as it could sound, the problems did not stop there or resolve automatically. African Americans were used to work as slaves or they worked the land for a wage. Once they were free, the lack of better opportunities did not desappeared.
