However, the suffering troops were held together by loyalty to the Patriot cause and to General Washington, who stayed with his men.

In December, 1777, General George Washington moved the Continental Army to their winter quarters at Valley Forge. ... The Dawes Act or the General Allotment Act of 1887 gave the power to the American President to survey the tribal lands and divide them among the tribal’s for the sole purpose of farming and improving their lifestyle. The main reason behind this land allotment was that the tribal’s used very backward method for the purpose of cultivation of crops.
