Which statement about long-term potentiation (LTP) is false? A. During normal, low-level activity, the release of glutamate at t

he synapse activates only the AMPA receptors. B. NMDA receptors cannot ordinarily respond to glutamate because magnesium ions block the NMDA receptor's calcium ion channel. C. Strong stimulation of AMPA receptors depolarizes the postsynaptic membrane so much that the Mg2+ plug is driven from the central channels of the NMDA receptors. D. NMDA receptors are fully active only when 'gated' by a strong depolarization (via AMPA receptors) and the ligand calcium.

The correct answer is: D. NMDA receptors are fully active only when 'gated' by a strong depolarization (via AMPA receptors) and the ligand calcium.

NMDA receptors or N-methyl-D-aspartate receptors are ionotropic glutamate receptors.

Those receptors are inactive at the resting potential, because channel pore is blocked by magnesium ions, preventing ion flows through it. After the depolarization (AMPA receptor mediated) of the post-synaptic cell, the channel inhibition is released and thus NMDA receptor is activated. Also, the receptor is activated when glycine and glutamate bind to it.

When it is activated, the receptor channel allows the flow of cations K+, Na+ and Ca2+. The influx of Ca2+, which is secondary messenger, triggers intracellular signaling pathways.

What is the difference between arbitrary and natural levels? Why do these matter? (4) how do archaeologists recover the smallest
Vlada [557]

Arbitrary level refers to the fundamental vertical subdivision of an excavation square, implied only when easily identifiable natural strata are absent and when natural strata are more than ten centimeters thick.

Natural strata refer to a vertical subdivision of an excavation square, which is reliant on the natural breaks in the sediments in terms of grain size, color, hardness, texture, or other features.

It is important to know the difference between the arbitrary and natural levels as arbitrary levels could amalgamate artifacts from distinct natural levels, that is, of distinct geologic contexts.

The archaeologists can recover the smallest ecofacts and artifacts with the assistance of flotation, screening, and bulk matrix processing

A second action potential cannot be generated until ________.
Bingel [31]

Answer:

"Action potential is a rapid rise and subsequent fall in voltage or membrane potential across a cellular membrane with a characteristic pattern."

It is the mode through which a neuron transports electrical signals.

Explanation:

 • Option - (a) is the best choice to choose from,
 • The refractory period :

A second action potential cannot occur until the membrane has recovered or reestablished, this is the refractory period. The absolute refractory period coincides with inactivation of voltage-gated sodium channels which makes it impossible to generate another nerve impulse.
