The three sentences below in the explanation part shows the distrust the soldiers had toward new technology and medicine in the post war era.

Explanation:

The are:

1. "In the next machine was a major who had a little hand like a baby's. he winked at me when the doctor examined his hand, which was between two leather straps that bounced up and down and flapped the stiff fingers."

2. "The doctor went to his office in a backroom and brought a photograph which showed a hand that had been withered almost s the small as the major's, before it had taken a machine course, and after was a little larger"

3.. "very interesting, very interesting," the major said and handed it back to the doctor".

The above sentences in the story "In Another Country" by Ernest Hemingway,  shows how the soldiers were suspicious of new technology and medicine after the war. The machines symbolizes false hopes. the description of the major's case above shows the narrator's suspicion of these machines. the major is detached according to the narrator and looks through the window as the machine works upon his injured hand.

In at least 150 words, explain two ways in which Patrick Henry persuades his audience that the moment to fight is at hand. Ident
melomori [17]

Answer:

Henry employs the rhetorical devices of ethos, pathos, and logos to encourage everyone to fight. He employs rhetorical questions such as: "Is life so dear, or peace so sweet, that it must be purchased at the cost of chains and slavery?" "Give me liberty or give me death, "he says. Repetition like this: "we have to fight! I repeat it, sir, we must fight. "We have to fight! I say it again, sir: we must fight. " "Is life so dear, or peace so sweet..." in this manner, and so forth; and restatement such as this: "Trust it not... Let us not deceive ourselves, sir," and exclamation points such as: "The war has actually begun!" The next gale that blows in from the north will bring a resounding clash of arms!" He employs rhetorical questions and appeals in order to get the politicians' minds to work in the right direction.

Which two parts of this excerpt from F. Scott Fitzgerald's "Winter Dreams" helps build anticipation in the story?
Evgen [1.6K]

Answer: 2 and 5

Explanation: Part 1 is only a description of the action, and parts 3 and 4 introduce details from the character's past that enrich the narrative, but don't build anticipation. Part 2 introduces some anticipation in the last words "...he lay perfectly quiet and listened," which evokes in the reader a feeling of expectation for a relevant piece of auditory information. Part 5 has an even more intense effect, concentrated in the words "...he might never know again," which project an ominous feeling that events are about to unfold in the character's life.
