This religious theory can be considered one of the first attempts of a Christian reformation.<u> It failed mostly because didn't have any organization, but there are other reasons that we have to consider it.</u> The term Lollard comes from the Medieval Dutch, and can be translated as ''mumbler". <u>This reformation movement was a personal idea and project of John Wycliffe and believed that the spiritual scriptures should be written in vernacular language, to promote audience participation and better understand of the religious precepts. However, the Lollards went farthest. According to them, the religious power and authority result from devotion and not from the church hierarchy. </u> It failed because, for the most part, it was the 14th century and reformations like these were not possible while the Catholic Church had the supreme power. <u>But especially because it was too ambitious for its time.</u>
