What was the basis of the Greek religion?

B. Mythology

Greek religion, or Hellenic religion, was a polytheistic faith based on the myths that explained the origins of deities and mankind. Although this faith traces its origins to these myths, it doesn't represent the entire Greek mythological body.

The practitioners performed rituals (sacrifices) on sanctuaries and didn't have sacred scriptures or book. They believed in twelve main deities which represented different attributes. Some of these deities are: Zeus, Athena, Dionysos, Aphrodite, Artemis or Apollo.
