A person's home to work commute on a wintery morning involves traveling on Highway A, Highway B, and then Highway C. The person

cannot make it to work if one or more of the roadway segments is icy. The probability of Highway A being icy is 0.1, Highway B being icy is 0.15, and Highway C being icy is 0.15. Assume the highways being icy is independent. Calculate the probability that the person will not make it to work.

Answer:

Probability = 0.35

Step-by-step explanation:

Given :-

  • Probability (Highway A Icy) = 0.1
  • Probability (Highway B Icy) = 0.15
  • Probability (Highway C icy) = 0.15

So :-

  • Probability (Highway A not icy) = 1 - 0.1 = 0.9
  • Probability (Highway B not icy) = 1 - 0.15 = 0.85
  • Probability (Highway C not icy) = 1 - 0.15 = 0.85

Probability of person not getting to work timely

= Probability [Even one of the highway A, B or C is icy]

= 1 - Probability [None of Highway A, B, C is icy]

Since these are independent events, So :-

= Prob. [Highway A not icy & Highway B not icy & Highway C not icy]

= 1 - ( 0.9 x 0.85 x 0.85)

= 1 - 0.65

= 0.35

Deanna collected data on the favorite sports of the students of two grades. The table shows the relative frequencies of rows for
Blababa [14]

Answer:

In Grade 8, 22% of students liked volleyball.

Step-by-step explanation:

Given:

The table representing the relative frequencies of different sports in different grades among the students.

                           Swimming Running Volleyball Row totals

Grade 8 0.14 0.18 0.22 0.54

Grade 9 0.17 0.24 0.05 0.46

Column totals 0.31 0.42 0.27 1

Relative frequency gives the ratio of the number of quantities of a particular kind and the total number of quantities.

\textrm{Relative frequency}=\frac{\textrm{Number of students in a particular sport}}{\textrm{Total students}}

From the above table, we can conclude the following points:

Grade 8:

14% liked swimming, 18% liked running and 22% liked volleyball. So, a total of 54% students liked playing sports.

Grade 9:

17% liked swimming, 24% liked running and 5% liked volleyball. So, a total of 46% students liked playing sports.

Combining students of grade 8 and 9:

31% liked swimming, 42% liked running and 27% liked volleyball.

From all the options available, we observe that, third option is only correct.

In Grade 8, 22% of students liked volleyball.

-8Q+6+30-1
Help plz and please explain how
nadya68 [22]

This is just an expression. It's not an equation, so there's nothing to solve for.

The only thing you can do here is add like terms:

-8Q+6+30-1 = -8Q+(6+30-1)=-8Q+35
