DHS is the youngest U.S. cabinet department. It was created in response to the September 11 terrorist attacks and established on November 25, 2002 by the Homeland Security Act.
The main purpose of this department is to implement a national strategy to prevent further terrorist attacks or threats. It works in the civilian sphere to protect the United States within and outside its borders.
