<span>D. Lacked a unified army. Each colony had a militia which was made up of farmers and untrained men. The colonies had very few common factors pulling them together as a unit. To fight against the British meant fighting without the army that they once belonged or fighting with men that were untrained. Men were asked to join colonial militias which required them to leave their fields and work to fight for a dangerous cause against the British. </span>
