On another occasion George saves Tom from going to jail by settling the issue with a man called Cronshaw who threatened Tom to go to court if he didn't pay his money. George settles the issue by paying Cronshaw five hundred pounds. In this way Tom manages to get money from George.George helped his brother but at one point, he did not lend him money. At that instance, Tom blackmailed George by saying that he would work at a bar or as a taxi driver, thus tainting the family name. George agrees to lend Tom money in order to protect the family name.
