The preganglionic fibers affect the heart, lungs, and abdominal organs with exception of the distal portion of the colon. The cell body of preganglionic neuron is in the brain or spinal cord (CNS), its axon exits the CNS as part of a cranial or spinal nerve. It convey nerve impulses from the CNS to autonomic ganglia.
