The southernmost continent has a coastal part named Wilkes land where research was done on the pollen and micro fossils which revealed that the icy continent was once part of a landmass that was predominantly tropical in nature.  

According to scientists, palm trees thrived on this icy continent almost 52 million years ago and they also believe that, it was once home to a 'near' Rain forest while the temperature was around 68 degree Fahrenheit.
