The southernmost continent has a coastal part named Wilkes land where research was done on the pollen and micro fossils which revealed that the icy continent was once part of a landmass that was predominantly tropical in nature.
According to scientists, palm trees thrived on this icy continent almost 52 million years ago and they also believe that, it was once home to a 'near' Rain forest while the temperature was around 68 degree Fahrenheit.
Massive landmarks are usually made of diverse climates based on the continent. However, different areas may be affected based on the temperatures of such places; for instance, massive mountains have chains that block moisture and rainfall from reaching the earth’s service.
However, the depot of coal in the United States and Europe shows that some old parts of the continent and those near the equator experiences rainfall similar to that in the tropical forest. Coal usually comes when water and pressure transforms into peat.
