Among the official languages most spoken in the northern part of the African continent (composed by Algeria, Egypt, Libya, Mauritania, Morocco, Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic and Tunisia) are:

Arabic (being the first most spoken), Berber, French, Spanish and English.

It should be noted, that the Arabic language belongs to the southern Semitic branch of the Afro-Asian family, sharing linguistic roots with other languages such as Aramaic and Hebrew.

In addition, Arabic as a language is mainly classified as follows:

-Classic Arabic, used in ancient literature and the Quran. It is considered a formal arabic in all the countries in which Arabic is spoken.

- Maghreb Arabic, spoken in North Africa.

- Southern Arabic, spoken in the Arabian Peninsula.

- Andalusian Arabic, a dialect of the Arabic language spoken in Al-Andalus, a territory of the Iberian Peninsula (curently modern Spain and Portugal) that was part of the Islamic world between the eighth and fifteenth centuries. It is currently extinct and is a dead language.
