A department of Alpha Co. incurred the following costs for the month of September. Variable costs, and the variable portion of m

ixed costs, are a function of the number of units of activity:
Activity level in units

3,500

Variable costs

$

7,000

Fixed costs

30,000

Mixed costs

21,100

Total costs

$

58,100

During October the activity level was 7,800 units, and the total costs incurred were $68,500.

Required:

a. Calculate the variable costs, fixed costs, and mixed costs incurred during October.

b. Use the high–low method to calculate the cost formula for mixed cost. (Do not round intermediate calculations and round your answers to 2 decimal places.)

Answer:

a. Costs incurred during October:

Variable = $15600

Fixed = $30000

Mixed = $22900

b. Mixed cost = 0.42x + 19634.88

Explanation:

a.

Based on the September data, the variable costs per unit were:

Variable costs per unit = 7000 / 3500 = $2 per unit

The variable costs are the costs that vary with the changes in output level. The fixed costs on the other hand, remain fixed in the short run.

  • Thus the fixed costs will remain $30000 for October also.
  • The Variable costs for October will be = 2 * 7800 = $15600
  • The mixed costs for October will be = Total costs - Fixed costs - Variable costs
  • Mixed costs-October = 68500 - 30000 - 15600 = $22900

b.

The high-low method is used to calculate the variable component in a mixed cost.

The variable cost per unit under High-low method is:

Variable cost per unit = (Highest activity cost - lowest activity cost) / (Highest activity level - lowest activity level)

Variable cost per unit = (22900 - 21100) / (7800 - 3500)

Variable cost per unit = $0.4186046512 rounded off to $0.42 per unit

Thus, the fixed cost component under mixed cost

Fixed cost component = 22900 - 0.4186046512 * (7800) = $19634.88

The cost formula for mixed cost is:

Mixed cost = 0.42x + 19634.88

Where x is the number of units.

Philip Morris has issued bonds that pay semiannually with the following characteristics:
topjm [15]

Answer:

a) ≈ 9.6 years

b) Modified duration is a better measure because Modified duration consider the concept of negative convexity

c) i) coupon of bond = 4%

Modified duration will increase since the coupon rate of payment decreased

ii) Maturity of bond = 7

Modified duration will decline as Maturity period has declined to 7 years

Explanation:

A) Calculate modified duration using the preceding information

modified duration = Macaulay duration / ( 1 + (yield to maturity / 2 ))

                             = 10 / ( 1 + ( 0.08 / 2 ))

                             = 9.615 years

B) Modified duration is a better measure because Modified duration consider the concept of negative convexity while Macaulay methods shows the inverse relationship between the duration of the bond and coupon payment .

C) Determine Direction of change in modified duration if

i) coupon of bond = 4%

Modified duration will increase since the coupon rate of payment decreased

ii) Maturity of bond = 7

Modified duration will decline as Maturity period has declined to 7 years

Ebrima Kanteh works as a supervisor for an engineering company in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. In the UK he had a reputation for speaki
ycow [4]

Answer:

He should try to analyze and understand how Saudi workers view the role of a leader and teamwork. Cultural differences between Saudi Arabia and the UK are huge, the only similarity is that both are monarchies, but British monarchy stepped aside and doesn't rule anymore. While Saudi monarchy rules with an iron fist.

Some behavior or actions that are considered completely out of place or might even be illegal in the UK are totally normal in Saudi Arabia, and vice versa. I met someone that used to work in the middle east and he remembers that subordinates have a great respect for their leaders and do not question anything. But at the same time, normal motivation techniques didn't work with them. I remember he told me that in order to be able to make his team work he had to be rude with them and basically order them what to do and make sure they did it. This behavior would be unacceptable in western countries, bosses do not yell at employees all the time, but it worked for him there.

It wasn't the same country, but in order to work properly he had to overcome several cultural barriers and adopt several local customs. By the way, his subordinates were happy with him. No one ever confronted him and told him not to yell at people, since that is normal for them.

Ebrima will need to treat his British subordinates one way, and his Saudi subordinates another way. He should also talk to his fellow British employees and explain them why he is acting that way. If he doesn't, some of them might think he is abusing his authority. When my friend told about his experience I also thought he had become a really bad boss, but them he explained things to me in greater detail.

Most students are on strike. Very few students were crossing the picket line. In fact, the postal employees refused to deliver m
brilliants [131]

Answer:

TRUE.

Explanation:

A secondary boycott is an attempt to influence the actions of one business by exerting pressure on another business. It is a situation where one refuses to do business with a company in an attempt to persuade them not to do business with another company where the employees are striking or involved in a disagreement with their employees.

Typically a labor union involved in a dispute with an employer will arrange a secondary boycott if less drastic measures to reach a satisfactory accord with the employer have been ineffective. Secondary boycotts have two main forms: a secondary consumer boycott, in which the union appeals to consumers to withhold patronage of a business, and a secondary employee boycott, in which the union dissuades employees from working for a particular business.

Since the postal employees refused to deliver mail claiming that they were honoring the strike for their fellow service union members. Therefore, it is TRUE that the postal employees were participating in a voluntary secondary boycott.

Which of the following describes accrued revenue? (Check all that apply) Multiple select question. The adjustment causes an incr
vaieri [72.5K]

Answer:

  • The adjustment causes an increase in an asset account and an increase in a revenue account.
  • Accounts receivable is usually increased when accruing revenues.
  • They refer to revenues that are earned in a period, but have not been received and are unrecorded.
  • They refer to earnings which have been earned but not yet billed.

Explanation:

Accrued revenue refers to cash earned for selling a good or delivering a service yet the cash has not been received and the transaction was not recorded in the books as revenue. This means that the cash has been earned but it has not been billed to the customer it was earned from.

When the books are being adjusted for this, the accounts receivable - which is an asset account - will increase to show that cash is owed. Revenue will also increase as this was cash earned from delivering a good or service.
