The Panic of 1837 was a financial crisis in the United States that touched off a major recession that lasted until the mid-1840s. Profits, prices, and wages went down while unemployment went up. Pessimism abounded during the time. The panic had both domestic and foreign origins. Speculative lending practices in western states, a sharp decline in cotton prices, a collapsing land bubble, international specie flows, and restrictive lending policies in Great Britain were all to blame.[1][2] On May 10, 1837, banks in New York City suspended specie payments, meaning that they would no longer redeem commercial paper in specie at full face value.[3] Despite a brief recovery in 1838, the recession persisted for approximately seven years. Banks collapsed, businesses failed, prices declined, and thousands of workers lost their jobs. Unemployment may have been as high as 25% in some locales. The years 1837 to 1844 were, generally speaking, years of deflation in wages and prices.[4]

What could be done to increase turnout constitutional amendment elections?
Vera_Pavlovna [14]
Political parties have used state-level ballot initiatives to motivate voter turnout in different ways.
For example, in 2004, the Republican Party put a constitutional amendment on gay marriage on the ballot in many states. This move motivated Republican voters to show up on Election Day to vote against the measures, which defeated the initiatives and helped President George W. Bush beat John Kerry.
In 2018, the trends in ballot initiatives show a focus on transportation and taxes.

The supreme court ruled in baker v. carr (1962) that legislative districts with unequal populations were unfair. in its decision
Citrus2011 [14]
The case of Baker v. Carr from 1962 is an important case that majorly influenced redistricting. Redistricting means changing the way the voting districts are delineated and after this case the court could decide about redistricting cases. This allowed for voting districts to be redrawn under the guidance of the federal courts.
