The US set up their own government in Japan. It was a democracy and with the spread communism throughout the world the US wanted an ally in Asia that they could basically use as their own military base to stop the spread of communism. Also the enemies of the US in Japan were basically gone. The majority of the soldiers that posed a threat killed themselves after the Emperor told them to surrender. As for the Soviet Union they completely saw what the US did in Japan and this angered them and they continued to try and spread communism. However the relations between the 2 countries were never good. Both just knew that they needed the other in order to win the war and because after the war they no longer needed each other, they just split and went their separate ways. Think of it as a bully and the kid he bullies in a class together. They don’t like each other at all but they might just work together because they don’t like the teacher or don’t want to do the assignment or whatever. Basically the US and Soviet Union just had a common enemy in Germany and that’s all that ever brought them together.

Hope that helped!

How does Hannah-Jones expand on this quote from sociologist Glenn Bracey: ‘‘Out of the ashes of white denigration, we gave birth
Tomtit [17]

This question refers to the essay "The Idea of America" by Hannah-Jones. In this essay, Jones talks about the way Black people experienced, and impacted, the Revolutionary War in the United States. She tells us that:

<em>"...as the sociologist Glenn Bracey wrote, ‘‘Out of the ashes of white denigration, we gave birth to ourselves.’’ For as much as white people tried to pretend, black people were not chattel. And so the process of seasoning, instead of erasing identity, served an opposite purpose: In the void, we forged a new culture all our own."</em>

The explanation the author gives in this text expands on the quote by describing how Black people were able to develop their own selves. We learn that Black people were considered "chattel" and that they were denigrated, minimized and ignored constantly. However, this did not lead to the erasure of their culture. Instead, out of these harsh experiences, Black people were able to create their own identity in a way that continues to our day.

An archeologist discovers an official-looking seal during an archeological dig. The seal is cylindrical in shape and is much lik
KIM [24]

Answer:

D.  The civilization had a functioning government in place that decided the law of the land.

Explanation:

The discovery of the <em>official-looking seal</em> and the<em> clay tablet containing the laws which the civilization have to follow</em> shows that they have a functioning government. This means that the society has a leader and they followed a set of rules.

It wasn't clearly stated in the statement whether the head was a king but it mentioned that the seal<em> was much like what a king would use. </em>So we cannot conclude that all civilizations were ruled by kings. <em>This makes choice A incorrect. </em>

Based on the information given, we're not sure whether it was the king who wrote the rules on the clay tablets. <em>This makes choice B incorrect.</em>

The statements above didn't show any evidence that the rulers were governors and not kings, so we cannot assume as well. <em>This makes choice C incorrect.</em>

Why do we call a weak stock market a bear?
Marianna [84]

Answer:

Food and personal care stocks often called “defensive stocks,” usually do well. There are times when bonds go up as stocks decline. Sometimes a particular sector of the market, such as utilities, real estate, or health care, might do well, even if other sectors are losing value
