So, I looked this question up, and saw a couple of other questions in the same way. One person said this:

Current estimates for world production are about 25 million tonnes or 110 million bales annually, accounting for 2.5% of the world's arable land. Chinais the world's largest producer of cotton, but most of this is used domestically. The United States has been the largest exporter for many years.

Pakistan is the fourth cotton-producing country in the world. In 2007-08 it produced 8.90 million bales of cotton, which was 7.39 per cent of the world production. The improvement in the quality of cotton, grown in the Indus basin, у research irrigation and improved agronomical practices, has indeed been remarkable.
