OPTIONS:

A) Prairie dogs are the main source of food for wolves and coyotes in the grassland. B) Prairie dogs are the species with the largest number of individuals in the grassland ecosystem. C) They successfully compete with the other herbivores for grass and are a major threat to these species. D) Their tunnels act as conduits for rain water to seep into the ground, thereby promoting the growth of grass.

Answer:

D) Their tunnels act as conduits for rain water to seep into the ground, thereby promoting the growth of grass.

Explanation:

A keystone species is an organisms whose presence and population defines the existence or balance of the ecosystem where they are found. Any negative influence on their population would drastically bring a change and imbalance in an ecosystem. Their presence and activities in the ecosystem is vital and beneficial to other organisms in the ecosystem.

Prairie dogs are keystone species in the grassland ecosystem where they are found because the tunnels they burrow improves soil aeration, fertility as well as water percolation, which encourages the growth of grass in grasslands. Seeds easily germinate also with this improved soil condition.

if you were to watch an individual neurotransmitter molecule just after it was released what would happen to it
Olenka [21]

Neurotransmitter leaves the presynaptic cell by exocytosis. It is released in the synaptic space, and moves to the postsynaptic membrane to meet its receptor. When binding occurs, it triggers a response in the new cell.

-----------------------------------------

Every neuron forms connections with another cell.

When a presynaptic cell sends information, a neurotransmitter is released.

After the exocytosis event, this chemical substance travels through the synaptic space forward to the other cell. Once there, it binds to its receptors in the postsynaptic membrane.

When the joining occurs, the receptor acquires a channel shape. This change allows the ion transference that will make possible the modification of the action potential.

This binding produces the excitatory postsynaptic potential -depolarization-.

A new action potential initiates in the postsynaptic cell and spreads to the rest of the membrane, depolarizing it.

If the communication between cells needs to stop, the neurotransmitter will be taken out from the synaptic space instead of binding to its receptor.

There are two mechanisms by which the neurotransmitter can be eliminated: by deactivation or reuptake.

When a resistant population occurs, the pesticide is no longer useful for managing that specific pest and other management options must be sought out.
