1st: Since it says our hole is dug down 8ft to begin with we can start with x=-8
2nd: After a short break, it says we dug down another 3 feet which is -8-3=-11 which shows we are 11 feet below ground where the negative number showcases we are below ground level.
3rd:
After this we are shown a tractor accidentally fills in the hole with 4ft of dirt which signifies that we lose some of our holes height below ground so we would add four: -11+4=-7 this shows that we are finally seven feet below ground.
