From “The Raven” by Edgar Allan Poe But the Raven, sitting lonely on the placid bust, spoke only That one word, as if his soul i

n that one word he did outpour. Nothing farther then he uttered—not a feather then he fluttered— Till I scarcely more than muttered, “Other friends have flown before— On the morrow he will leave me, as my Hopes have flown before.” Then the bird said, “Nevermore.”
In this excerpt, what is the speaker saying the raven will do?

It will befriend the speaker.

It will certainly die.

It will leave immediately.

It will leave the next day.

Answer:

The correct answer is "It will leave the next day"

Explanation:

The part of the extract where the speaker suggests the Raven will leave the next day is: "Other friends have flown before— On the morrow he will leave me, as my Hopes have flown before.”. In this quote, the speaker explains how important people in is life (such as friends) have left him alone in the past, and he believes the bird will leave him too. The words the speaker uses to specifically make reference to the raven leaving the next day are "on the morrow he will leave me", where "morrow" means "in the morning".

bearhunter [10]

The passage that most clearly conveys the reader's attitude to Gregor is Drops of rain could be heard hitting the pane, which made him feel extremely depressed.

When Gregor Samsa awoke one morning from terrible nightmares, he discovered that he had been changed into an awful vermin and was lying in his bed. As he laid on his armour-like back, he could see his brown tummy, which was slightly rounded and separated into stiff pieces by arches. It was barely covered by the bedding and appeared to be about to slide off at any second. He watched while his numerous, pitifully small legs waved around pathetically in comparison to the bulk of the rest of him.
