We Have Scorched The Snake Not Killed It

English

Answer:

By scorching the snake but not killing it, Macbeth means that they still have threats to face, even with Duncan out of the picture.

Explanation:

William Shakespeare's Macbeth deals with the story of Macbeth who, adamant on making his fate come true from the prophecy of three witches, did numerous evil acts. Added to that, he was also led to these murderous acts by his equally power hungry wife Lady Macbeth.

The given excerpt from Act II scene ii of the play reveals how Macbeth feels even after getting rid of his primary enemy King Duncan. Even after assurance from his wife to relax, he did not seem happy about his act. Rather, he wanted to get rid of anyone who seems an obstacle for his road to the throne. Scorching the snake is a metaphorical way of indicating the removal of one stumbling block, but "not kill'd it" shows that he still believes there are more threats before he could successfully and happily sit in the throne. Duncan's death may be what he wanted, but it is not the end of any threat. The snake is the whole entity of the possible threats, and the scorching act is just the start of getting rid of the whole animal. The snake is a metaphor for all threats.

Lewis has written an informational academic paper on deer. After rereading his work, he decides he should revise a few sentences
Sedaia [141]

Answer:

c. Some people think they can tame deer, but I just don’t buy it.

Explanation:

A paper with an academic voice is characterized for featuring a formal language as well as impersonal and reasonable statements based on evidence. It is also free of idioms, slang or expressions that one would normally use with friends or in informal settings. The expression in option C: “I just don't buy it” is too informal and personal to be part of an informational academic paper, and thus, it should be revised.

The principal will say, ’rules have to be followed at any cost (right in indirect form)
JulsSmile [24]

Answer:

The same structure, in indirect or reported form, would be:

The principal will say that rules have to be followed at any cost.

Explanation:

When reporting what someone said, we must change the verb tenses according to when the line was said. If there are any pronouns in the sentence, those may also need to be changed to match the speaker - for instance, if a man said something about himself, we should change "I" for "he". We also change time expressions, such as substituting "today" for "that day".

Not much changes in the sentence we are transforming here since the line inside the quotation marks does not present time expressions or pronouns. Another reason for that is the verb tense. Because it is "will say", which is a future, we do not have to change the verb tense inside the quotation marks.

Just to make it clearer, imagine that the principal already said that: The principal said, "Rules have to be followed at any cost." Now the tense is in the past, "said". In this case, we should also change the tense inside the quotation marks. It would be: The principal said that rules had to be followed at any cost.
