Answer: George Washington died on December 14, 1779 and it is believed that the cause of his death was a throat infection. The doctors at that time believed in bloodletting (the withdrawal of blood from a patient to prevent or cure an illness) so they used this treatment hoping to cure George Washington. It is believed that three doctors came to help him, they were Dr. James Craik (Washington's personal physician), Dr. Elisha Cullen D., and Dr. Gustavus Richard Brown. After each of the them had performed bloodletting, George Washington lost 32 ounces of blood and was having extreme difficulty breathing. None of the efforts of the doctors were helping George Washington, therefore he died that day.
