One Greek Goddess is the goddess Demeter she was the goddess of harvest. Demeter’s job was to take care of all the earths harvest and provide the humans with crops to feed their families. Demeter also had a daughter named Persephone and she was the goddess of spring, she was Demeter’s pride and joy. Persephone was a very kind and beautiful goddess who was admired by many. Until one day the god of the underworld Hades spotted her and decided to make her his wife. But instead of asking for Persephone’s hand in marriage he decided to kidnap her. While in the underworld Persephone decided to eat six out of twelve pomegranate seeds. Unaware that by eating the fruit she would be stuck in the underworld forever. As that was going on Demeter was frantically looking for her and when she thought all hope was lost she turned to Zeus for help. But rather then receiving help she instead was told that her daughter was now stuck in the underworld for eating those six pomegranate seeds and there was nothing he can do. Though Demeter was in distress so instead of doing the years harvest she decided she wouldn’t out of protest. Once Zeus took notice of the problem Demeter was causing he decided to make a deal with her and Hades. The deal was that Persephone was to spend six months in the underworld and the other six months up on earth with her mother. And why six you may ask? Well they represent the six pomegranate seeds Persephone ate.
