In a large experimental Drosophila population, the relative fitness of a recessive phenotype is calculated to be 0.90, and the m

Which of the following are NOT functions of the spinal cord?
maksim [4K]

Answer:

Reflexes are not a function of the spinal cord.

Explanation:

The spinal cord is part of the central nervous system and is made up of neurons that go along it (from the end of the brain stem almost to the bottom of the spine).

The spinal cord receives incoming messages from the peripheral nervous system (including the sensory neurons) and pass on messages from the brain to efferent neurons (motor neurons at muscles).

The spinal cord contributes to learning as it passes on the info received from sensory neurons (that there is an obstacle in the path) to the brain and passes on the response from the brain to the muscles (to lift the foot up higher).

The spinal cord is essential for integration as it passes on sensory information  to the brain to determine motor output.

Reflexes are when sensory information is quickly sent straight to motor neurons to move. It does not need to go to the brain (hence does not need to go to the spinal cord) for the reaction as it would be too slow. This is seen when someone who is paraplegic (paralysed at lower torso) can still move their leg in response to the doctor tapping their knee even when they cannot forcibly move their legs.

Therefore reflexes are not a function of the spinal cord.

<span>Of course feeling like you are going to die is probably the most important priority. Although a heavy weight on your chest can be a dangerous and critical symptom, it still is not as critical as feeling like you are going to die.</span>

If the flowers contain 50,000 kcal of energy, about how much energy will the lizard obtain from eating the butterfly? 500 kcal 5
Triss [41]
500 because of the 10% rule when moving up in food chains, for example; patch of grass-200J rabbit eats some of it but doesn’t eat all - 150J the rabbit runs around for a bit and loses energy, the fox doesn’t eat all of the rabbit - 50J ( just a rough example may not be completely right but the concept of the rule is there and the energy).

The observation that different geographical areas sometimes exhibit plant and animal communities of similar appearance, even tho
zaharov [31]

Answer:

C) convergent evolution

Explanation:

Convergent evolution is a type of pattern of evolution which occurs when the two unrelated species evolves with the same feature or traits as a result of the exposure of the species to the same environmental conditions.

This type of evolution results in ion the formation of the analogous structure which is functionally similar but is evolved from the same ancestor.

In the given question, since the two unrelated species: plants and animals exhibit the same appearance on different geographical areas thus represents that convergent evolution is taking place.

Thus, C) convergent evolution is the correct answer.
