The korean war began in june 1950 when chinese forces attacked american forces in korea
Assoli18 [71]
Korea was also impacted by the Cold war. Korean War began in 1950 in which the country was divided into 2 at the DM Zone. This division resulted in the formation of two countries: communist North Korea (supported by the Soviets) and South Korea (supported by the United States). In North Korea, Soviet Union and China was seeking to expand the communist sphere of influence, aided the North Korea. In South Korea, forces representing the USA-led primarily by the US with troops provided by 15 other nations, aided South Korea. Each side wanted to unite the Korean peninsula under its own political ideology. The war began at the 38th parallel when soldiers from North Korea marched across the parallel attacking South. The war was between good and evil (Democracy and Communist). Unified with South Korea, US helped push back North Korean soldiers back to the 38th parallel. America began to work on a peace treaty with North Korea but China felt as if they were too close to them, so they counterattacked and the war went on for another 2 years. After the war, there many after effects. One of them was the cost of the war and the death toll, more than 3 million were killed. No nation won the war but both suffered and benefited in many ways. Korea returned to the way they were before the war and it remained divided. South Korea was not defeated because of US. America did succeed in the policy of containment which was stopping the communist nations to expand and spread its influence but lost money and lives. North and South Korea have been divided between the buffer zone that runs along the 38th parallel. North Korea was still communist and South Korea was still democratic. This nation is not just divided geographically but their economics and social structures are completely diverse. The war marked the first major armed conflict of nuclear age.
