For Billy’s birthday party his mother has baked 80 cookies. 40 cookies contain vanilla and 45 contains nuts, and 15 contain both

. One of Billy’s friends, Jim, is allergic to both nuts and vanilla, but he loves cookies! What is the largest number of cookies that Jim can eat on Billy’s birthday? (Note that it is fine for Jim to smell nuts and vanilla as long as he is not eating anything that contains them.)

In this item, we are to determine the number of cookies that contains only vanilla or nuts. To do so, we have to subtract from the number of cookies containing vanilla or nuts, the number of cookies that contains both.

                 cookies with vanilla only = 40 - 15 = 25
                  cookies with nuts only = 45 - 15 = 30

cookies with either vanilla or nuts or both = 25 + 30 + 15 = 70

cookies without vanilla or nuts = 80 - 70 = 10

Therefore, the greatest number of cookies that Jim can eat is 10.

Use the information in the diagram to find the length of segment AD. Round your answer to the nearest hundredth.
Lana71 [14]

Based on the lengths of the given triangles and the length of segment BD, the length of segment AD is 22.20.

<h3>What is the length of segment AD?</h3>

The triangle ABC is a right angled triangle with segment AB being the hypothenuse.

We can therefore find this length using the Pythagoras Rule:

Hypothenuse ² = a² + b²

Hypothenuse ² = 28.6² + 23.2²

Hypothenuse ² = 1,356.20

Hypothenuse = √1,356.20

= 36.83

Length of AD:
= AB - BD

= 36.83 - 14.60

= 22.2

A certain bay with very high tides displays the following behavior. In one 12-h period the water starts at mean sea level, rises
Firdavs [7]

Answer:

the required equation is; y = 21 sin(πt/6)

Step-by-step explanation:

Given the data in the question;

Water rises above sea level = 21 ft

Water drops below sea level = 21 ft

so

maximum = 21 ft and also

minimum = 21 ft

Amplitude = ( maximum + minimum ) / 2

Amplitude = ( 21 + 21 ) / 2

Amplitude = ( 21 + 21 ) / 2 = 42/2 = 21 ft

Period = 12 hours

and we know that; period = 2π/b

so

12 = 2π/b

12b = 2π

b = 2π / 12

b = π/6

Standard equation for simple harmonic is; y = asin(bt)

we substitute

y = 21 sin(πt/6)

Hence the required equation is; y = 21 sin(πt/6)

A local university wanted to understand what students prefer to eat during finals. They asked 1000 students, "Do you prefer chic
olga55 [171]

Answer:

P(\text{Pizza}\ |\ \text{Female})=0.225

Step-by-step explanation:

The two-way frequency table is attached below.

We have to calculate the probability of, a person chosen at random prefers pizza given that they are female, i.e P(\text{Pizza}\ |\ \text{female})

This is a conditional probability.

We know that,

P(A\ |\ B)=\dfrac{P(A\ \cap\ B)}{P(B)}

So,

P(\text{Pizza}\ |\ \text{Female})=\dfrac{P(\text{Pizza}\ \cap\ \text{Female)}}{P({\text{Female}})}

From the table,

P(\text{Pizza}\ \cap\ \text{Female)}=\dfrac{119}{1000}

P({\text{Female}})=\dfrac{530}{1000}

Putting the values,

P(\text{Pizza}\ |\ \text{Female})=\dfrac{P(\text{Pizza}\ \cap\ \text{Female)}}{P({\text{Female}})}=\dfrac{\frac{119}{1000}}{\frac{530}{1000}}=0.225
