Theme of envy: As a descendent of Cain, Grendel is the biblical son of Adam and Eve, who out of jealousy kills his brother Abel (Genesis 4). He is eternally doomed. Grendel's response in envy to Heorot's light filled and happy celebrations. The scops "Song of Creation" reminds him of the loss he suffered because of Cain's sin and makes him angry and seek for revenge from him stemming envy.

When Mr. Beuller ignores embarrassing Victor, the boy is somewhat confused by this action. But later, Victor thinks of the teacher as a “good guy”. Answer: I think of Hamlet's changes as more of a wavy line--moving up and down--than abrupt turnarounds. After the Ghost speaks to Hamlet, he is steadfast in his desire for revenge, and then he wavers. He gets "proof" that Claudius did, indeed murder the king--and then he wavers. The soliloquies are, indeed, the evidence of those waverings.
