This example shows purpose because it is showing how their words towards her friend is so detrimental, so harsh, and so brutal. They don’t know what it feels like. And for that reasons she wants to say something that would be detrimental to them.

“But, those who oppose DACA, who wield protest signs and who want to build walls, have never felt the dreaded doom of deportation. They forget that our long and colorful history has been built by many immigrants—including the immigrants who fought for and founded our country. They forget that Lady Liberty stands as a beacon, asking for the tired, the poor, and the huddled masses yearning to breathe free. We have a responsibility to them.”

This example serves purpose in her letter because she is trying to remind the people who oppose DACA haven't felt the dread or the worry of deportation or discrimination. They forget immigrants have helped build up the country they also call home, they forget the development immigrants have given to their country. And while they forget this, they discriminate and spread hatred against them.
