3. The purpose of the 17th amendment is that Senators are elected by popular vote. This is important because they are who represent the people within a state, people should choose who represents them.

4. Higher education changed woman's roles in society for it allowed them to become great thinkers and be 'active members' of society, meaning they were able to give proper input as well as do male roles/jobs in society.

3. The Seventeenth Amendment altered the process for electing United States Senators and changed the way vacancies would be filled. Under the original constitutional provision, state legislatures filled vacancies when a Senator left office before the end of their term.
