Answer:

T= 21%

Explanation:

In DNA base pairing; Adenine will always pair with Thymine & Guanine will always pair with cytosine. Now, Given that a species has 29% of its DNA composed of the nucleotide containing guanine (G), we can therefore say that 29% of the bases are also cytosine. Hence, there will exist many guanine bases as cytosine bases.

G = 29%, C= 29%, A=???, T=???

G + C + A + T = 100%

29 + 29 + A + T = 100%

58 + A + T = 100%

A + T = 100% - 58%

A + T = 42%

In respect to cytosine and guanine, adenine and thymine must also be present in equal proportions in order to form proper base pairs.

We can therefore reasonably assume that half of the remaining DNA will consist of each residue.

As such, A= 21%, T= 21%

If a chemistry student is given a molecular formula of a molecule, can he or she readily identify it as one compound?
serg [7]
If a chemistry student is given a molecular formula of a molecule, she or he can easily and readily identify if it is compound by checking the bond either a covalent bond or ionic bond. Check the items of each element since elements in a compound are in fixed ratio, she or he can easily identify.

How are cancer cells able to get nutrients away from your healthy cells?
chubhunter [2.5K]
well this is an interesting question and i would say it may depend on what type of cancer cells you are growing and what type of "normal" cells your growing. One possibility is that cell fusion events may occur between your cancer cells and normal cells, thus creating a few options 1 - making the normal cell cancerous, 2 - making the cancer cell that fused with the normal cell not cancerous anymore. 3 - either way the fused cell will have a different genotype and hence be a different cell.

1. What property of the cell membrane allows some molecules to pass easily through, but not all?
prisoha [69]

Answer:

1.The cell membranes main trait is its selective permeability, which means that it allows more substances to cross it easily, but not others. small molecules that are nonpolar (have no charge) can cross the membrane easily through diffusion but ions (charged molecules) and larger molecules typically cannot.

2. The structure is called a lipid bilayer because it is composed of two layers of fat cells organized in two sheets. the lipid bilayer is typically about five nanometers thick and surrounds all cells providing the cell membrane structure.

3. Osmosis.osmosis is the movement of water across a membrane from an area of low solute concentration to an area of high solute concentration.

4. Active transport. during active transport substances move against the concentration gradient, from an area of low concentration to an area of high concentration. this process is active because it requires the use of energy (usually in the form of ATP). it is the opposite of passive transport.
